Joye’s Super Awesome Healthy Pizza Recipe

11403145_728966720548850_4069938586544363464_nHere’s a fun recipe from Joye, one of my superstar Co-Hosts in our online fitness Bootcamp.

She stumbled upon this 21 day fix pizza recipe on pinterest and tweaked things up a bit to make it work for her and her family.  This is a great way to get your kids interested in considering healthier alternatives in the kitchen.  

Here’s Joye’s rendition of this recipe:

Ingredients:

  • FlatOut Flatbread
  • Turkey Pepperoni
  • Skim Mozzarella Cheese
  • Mushrooms
  • Peppers
  • Spinach
  • Pizza Sauce
  • Italian Seasonings (basil, oregano, thyme, etc)

Kid’s Ingredients:

  • Pineapple
  • Turkey Pepperoni
  • Skim Mozzarella Cheese
  • Pizza Sauce
  • Italian Seasonings (basil, oregano, thyme, etc)

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350.
  2. Place Flatout on lightly greased (sprayed) cookie sheet.
  3. ** Bake for 2 minutes and remove from oven.  
  4. Flip and brush with EVOO, smashed garlic and sprinkle with Italian seasonings.
  5. Return to oven and bake for 2 minutes.
  6. If desired, saute vegetables such as mushrooms, onions, etc.
  7. Remove from oven and apply desired toppings such as sauce, sauteed vegetables and additional seasonings.
  8. Don’t forget the cheese, if that suits your fancy! 🙂
  9. Bake for 4 – 7 minutes. Broil on high for 1 additional minute, if you want extra crispy edges and golden cheese.
  10. Garnish with fresh basil and enjoy.

21 Day Fix Portion Breakdown

  • 1 Yellow
  • 1 Teaspoon
  • Free tomato sauce spoons (or Purple, if you are a heavy-handed sauce person!)
  • 1 – 2 Green, depending on your servings of vegetables
  • 1 – 2 Blue, if you add cheese

Notes

** Joye advised that she didn’t coat her pizza with olive oil after baking since she thought it would make it soggy.  She further mentioned that the initial flat out bake time should be a little longer than 2 minutes in order to avoid a soggy crust in the center.

** I would further add to either make your own homemade pizza sauce or use store bought and check the nutrition label using something like a Fooducate App.
